{0} INTRO:

"Anima-ls" is a project composed of four stories / miniature scenes that denounce different forms of animal abuse, from the most notorious to the most subtle and accepted. The challenge was to expose the implicit cruelty from humor and irony, avoiding the obvious and the stark.

I consider it an invitation to reflect on how trade with lives in our societies has been normalized, turning pets into toys, atrezo, as well as the object of fashions, whims or emotional needs. I also wanted to capture how humans engage in contradictions and absurd behaviors in their relationship with animals and, specially, pets.

"Anima-ls" is my first-ever experience with plasticine (as an adult), which has been an additional challenge, the greatest of all! The characters and small objects are made out entirely of ordinary plasticine, while the furniture was covered with clay on a base of recycled cardboard. The walls and floors of each vignette are made out of recycled cardboard, paper and plastic paint.

"Anima-les" es un proyecto integrado por cuatro historias / escenas en miniatura que denuncian diferentes formas de maltrato animal, desde las más evidentes a las más sutiles y aceptadas. El reto era exponer la crueldad implícita desde el humor y la ironía, evitando lo obvio y lo descarnado.

Lo considero una invitación a reflexionar sobre cómo se ha normalizado el comercio con vidas en nuestras sociedades, convirtiendo a las mascotas en juguetes, atrezo, así como objeto de modas, caprichos o necesidades emocionales. También he querido plasmar la forma en que el ser humano incurre en contradicciones y conductas absurdas en su relación con los animales y, en particular, las mascotas.

"Anima-les" es mi primerísima experiencia con la plastilina (siendo adulta), lo que ha supuesto un reto adicional, ¡el mayor de todos! Los personajes y pequeños objetos están realizados enteramente con plastilina común, mientras que los muebles se cubrieron de plastilina sobre una base de cartón reciclado. Las paredes y suelos de cada diorama están construidos con cartón reciclado, papel y pintura plástica.

Hello bones! My name is Dog, The Dog. At least for now. At the beginning, my new family called me Christmas Gift For The Kid, but then considered more practical Bruno. In fact, nobody calls me anything, since they are out of home all day long.

Luckily, I befriended Cushion, Ficus and Paper Toilet, and we play together around the flat. It seems that streets are a very dangerous place for me. So, when Mummy yells "Take The Dog out! He should pee!" and Dad replies "Again?!", I know it is time to visit the panoramic view toilet.

¡Hola cola! Mi nombre es Perro, El Perro. Al menos por ahora. Al principio, mi nueva familia me llamaba Regalo de Navidad Para El Crío, pero luego consideraron más práctico Bruno. En realidad, nadie me llama nada, ya que se pasan el día fuera de casa.

Por suerte, me hice amigo de Cojín, Ficus y Papel de Váter, y jugamos juntos por todo el piso. Según parece, la calle es un sitio muy peligroso para mí. Por eso, cuando Mami grita "¡Saca al perro! ¡Tiene que mear!" y Papá contesta "¡¿Otra vez?!", sé que es hora de visitar nuestro WC con vistas panorámicas.

Help! I meaWn, hi! My name is Frida, but this creepy woman insists on calling meW "Pitita, My Preecious". One stormeW night, I had gone out for a walk and I was... difficult to say... abducted? adopted? stolen? by her.

Then I thought I was in luck, cause She looked rich and attentive, but, actually, her cares is suffocating meW. Literally. A pacifier?! Really?! And who is that quiet guy on the wall? Will I suffer the same fate someday? I'd like to believe that his butt is comfortably sitting in the neighbour's wing chair.

¡Ayuda!, digo, ¡aloha! MiAU nombre es Frida, pero esta mujer tan inquietante se empeña en llamarmeU "Pitita, Mi Tesooro". Una noche de tormenta, había salido a dar un paseo y fui... cómo decirlo... ¿secuestrada? ¿adoptada?¿robada? por ella.

Entonces creí que estaba de suerte, porque ella parecía rica y atenta, pero, de verdad, sus cuidados meAU están asfixiando. Literalmente. ¡¿Un chupete?! ¡¿En serio?! ¿Y quién es ese tío tan callado de la pared? ¿Sufriré el mismo destino algún día? Quiero pensar que su trasero está cómodamente sentado en el sillón del vecino.

{3} PEARL / PERLA:

Yo, guys! This is Pearl, Pearl Stop Wait Slowly. And that's Granny. After She became widowed, Granny's family resolved to buy a dog for her. "A pet will keep you company and get you out of the bed for a walk". And they concluded that the best option for a octogenarian lady it would be a Bull Terrier puppy. What else?

Indeed, She never feels lonely nor bored with me, and I strive to drag her out for a run every time She rests! I love Granny, but I suspect She prefered her peaceful life before me, when just took care of feeding the pigeons. And I would prefer to run after them!

¡Hey! Soy Perla, Perla Para Espera Más Despacio. Y ésta es Abu. Después de quedarse viuda, la familia de Abu decidió comprarle un perro. "Así te hará compañía y te sacará de la cama para dar un paseo". Y llegaron a la conclusión de que la mejor opción para una anciana octogenaria sería una cachorro de Bull Terrier. ¿Qué si no?

En efecto, no le da tiempo a sentirse sola o aburrida conmigo, e intento arrastrarla fuera para echar una carrera cada vez que la pillo descansando. Quiero a Abu, pero sospecho que prefería la vida tranquila que llevaba antes, cuando sólo se ocupaba de dar de comer a las palomas. ¡Y yo preferiría perseguirlas!

{4} THE BALCONY GANG / LA PANDILLA DEL BALCÓN:

Whaat's up?! The 1st. Floor Gang speaking. Do you think this is too much? Wait to see the penguin in the freezer! I'm joking. He is actually in the bathtub.

At the moment, our owners, Mon and Su, had a good reason to bring us to live with them in a 35m2 apartment. "To have a goat is soo trendy, don't you think?", "A tortoise will outlive us, how funny!" (never mind how... She can always get a job, of course!), "I could teach a parrot to talk" (unfortunately, the birdie is hard of hearing and only chats with his reflection in the window)... And the pig... well... She was supposed to be a mini pig, but... never stopped growing! Now, She is on a hunger strike, just in case.

Maybe it was not a considered decision, but at some point the idea seemed pretty cool, and the rest... well, the rest is insignificant, isn't it?

¡¿Qué paaasa?! Somos la Banda del Primer Piso. Si esto te parece demasiado, espérate a ver al pingüino en el congelador. Es brooma. En realidad, está en la bañera.

En su momento, nuestras propietarias, Mon y Su, tuvieron una buena razón para traernos a vivir con ellas en su piso de 35 m2. "Tener una cabra está taan de moda, ¿no crees?", "Una tortuga nos sobrevivirá, qué gracioso" (no importa cómo... siempre puede buscarse un trabajo, claro), "Podría enseñar a hablar al loro" (lamentablemente, el pajarico es duro de oído y sólo mantiene conversaciones con su reflejo en la ventana)... Y la cerda... bueno... Se suponía que iba a ser una cerda enana, pero... ¡nunca dejó de crecer! Ahora se ha declarado en huelga de hambre, por si acaso.

Quizás no fue una decisión demasiado meditada, pero en algún momento la idea les pareció lo bastante guay y el resto... bueno, el resto carece de importancia, ¿a que sí?
